End of an experimental journey

My internet and media class has come a very pleasant end. I think what I have learnt most from this class is to push. Push further into your work and pieces and find the hidden meanings and representations of what you might be trying to convey. The last project, creating an immersive experience was hard, I think because working in a group it’s just harder for all ideas to gel together but my group worked well. I think that my work could’ve been better but at the time I did put in as much effort and time that I could and can only be happy as I can’t change it now.

I also learnt that it’s about making something and not telling someone how to feel, it’s about interaction and isolation. I want people to leave their everyday life and enter a journey they normally wouldn’t. Feel something that they might not want to or are scared of. The anticipation of it all is very exciting.

I have learnt so many new skills, I now know how to use premiere pro, iMovie, flash and sketch up. I loved using the internet for resources such as tutorials and online reviews of what to use.

All in all, was one of my favourite electives to choose this semester and in my course and I would highly encourage anyone who has a strong interest in creating interactive installations using connective links to the internet with art and social media to enroll. It’s a tangent within itself and it’ll take you beyond what technology and art media is all about.

Trialling Adobe Flash CC

I found an animation software that I use to used in high school but of course as everything ages, this one aged gracefully. Everything about it has changed, the interface, the symbols, basically to me it looks like a brand new programe. I started off watching youtube tutorials and then having a play with it. It look me a long time to get anything substancial. I wanted to create an animation like video with my signatures. I wanted to create a video process of it from start to finish. Of course it wasnt very easy. Just playing around with it took a long long time. I finally manged to get somewhere anad it looked some what like what I wanted.

What I do enjoy about it is how you can create something quite comical to something quite expressive like mine where Im only using black and white.

Using transparency in editing software : NIGHTMARE

In high school, I took a course called multimedia and we created animations and little interesting videos with hardly any qaulity to them. Now in this media class, I’m on the look out for a software that will allow me to sophisticatedly animate signatures. They are esssentially just black curves and swirls.

From this experience, I can tell you that I am truly over technolgy and software. Just before this I had written a full length post on the reserach and all that jazz inovling this part of my project. I had saved it in drafts and then it just dissapeared. I guess that is what happens to your stuff sometimes when they are not in physical form. When you lose your work from your computer when it crashes or when you accidently press the wrong button, its not a good feeling to say the least. I feel like crying but I have to come to terms with the fact that I will never get it back and move on. So why do we trust technolgy and computers so much in our day to day life when it literally is just virtual matter. As humans we have just place such importance in it. I could truly say that I talk/see/touch my phone and computer more than I see my parents sometimes. In moments like theses Im comtemplating why on earth I would trust a computer with such important documents and work.

Anyways back on topic, editing my work so it would appear and stay transparent using editting programs such as premiere pro and such. I think the key to really acheiving clean work is practise and continuous use of it. I also found that youtube tutorials work in aiding when I was stuck. Like I said this is just a biref post as the other one got deleted and the more I think about it the worse I feel. After several hours, I finally got the hang of it and once you do, its pretty simple from there just a few minor tweaks. IF your gonna use any programes start off with research because then you will have background knowledge on it.

I hope that its not as stressful for everyone else as it was for me but I guess thats just a part of learning and developing skills. My teacher once said that technology and software is only as good as its creator. Essentially your using their mind and what theyve presented to you and if there are glinches, its not like you can really fix it. Just take a deep breathe and continue.

Video phenomenon – first kiss

Im sure many of you have stumbled across this video pop up on your feed through social media platforms. It’s a video of twenty complete strangers sharing the intimate moment of their first kiss. It’s amazing how raw and vulnerable these people are in front the camera.

Something I really adore about this video is it’s ability to connect to others whilst being so simple. Isn’t it profound that just a short 3 minute video could reach and touch so many people. It’s the action that speaks rather than any words and the video has it’s own language.

I also really like how it’s in black and white. That’s really refreshing to see because now days as technology gets better each day, you’re constantly looking at bright and vibrant colours. It’s easy to get lost but a monochromatic theme is really classic and timeless.

As a media student study visual arts, I jump for joy when I find videos such as these. I’m always looking to make pieces that will interact with others and make them step out of their current reality. I struggle to translate my vision with media but this video encapsulated the artists views perfectly and credit to them as it’s not always easy.

Doesn’t it make you question why is it that a video like this goes viral? How something becomes a phenomenon on the internet ?

I think in the end, without it’s embellishments, media art through the net is all about speech and opinions. Whether your commenting or complimenting, it’s a platform for your voice to be heard. Videos such as these are about getting out there and connecting to others visually.

Invisible coca cola machine

I was researching ideas for the next media task and I came across

a video that really attracted my attention. It was very interesting. For Valentines day this year, coca cola thought it would be a cool idea to broadcast and reach out to their audience through digital media. The idea was an invisible vending machine that would only appear to couples.

Now that’s great advertising because not only will it get the brand to gain audience but it creates speculation. It’s using art in advertising. People are left with an impression which they will probably always associate vending machines/love/valentines day to coke.

First entry of the course

Today was the introduction to what new media and Internet was going to look like. It’s completely different to how it sounds on paper. I wasn’t expecting it to be so art based but I did like that it was very immersive sort of stuff where your there to use this course as a vehicle to ask questions and make accusations on everyday things in your life but based using media and internet of course.

The teacher asked the class what was Internet to them. Some said entertainment and some said advertising. For me, the internet is a very personal thing. I use the World Wide Web to communicate with my friends through social media Chanel’s such as Instagram and Facebook. I am constantly updated with what everyone’s up to. I also look at it creatively as you are allowed to make the perception of yourself over the internet however you want. You can embellish yourself or you can be brutally honest but it’s there for you as a gateway to reach out to others.
